tempus fugit
The most pernicious development in recent thought about new media is the thoughtless confusion of books and things.
The spurious dichotomy of new media and old, the specious drag race between print and hypertext, distracts us from matters of grave import.
We need better literature -- technical, political, and expressive alike -- if we are to survive and if survival is to be worth the effort. Hypertext is, at present, the only serious alternative to print: Nobody learns quantum mechanics or synthetic organic chemistry from TV or cinema.
We have two choices. We can work. Or we can sing Elegies.
