You probably noticed that, for the last few minutes, I've been talking about one thing, and the folks up on the screen have been talking about another.
That's OK. Nothing terrible happened. It's possible to talk about two things at once. Multivalence is not a vice.
In fact, it's inevitable. You don't think about just one thing at a time. You can't. A sentence doesn't mean just one thing: it can't.
Part of the textuality of the real world -- of picosecond lasers as well as postmodern drama -- is multiplicity. Motive and motivation, fact and presentation, everything is intertwingled.
