Don't get me wrong: lovable curmudgeons and radiant starlets aren't the end of storytelling either. I don't especially want to have dinner with the boys from Waiting for Godot, or spend a weekend of birdwatching with anyone from Macbeth, either.
But why are our hypertext friends so distant?
